2020  //  MAKE ROOM

As we think about 2020, we’re so excited!

One reason for our excitement is a new tool we’ve put together: The MAKE ROOM Journal. This journal is different than anything we’ve done before. Rather than a 21-day devotional or something for the beginning of the year, it’s a tool for 2020 and beyond! These journals (available starting next Sunday in the lobby) are purposed to help you to grow in your faith by establishing a rhythm of Bible reading & prayer.

They’ll each come with multiple reading plans (or choose one from YouVersion), as well as a mechanism called S.O.A.P. (Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer).

Happy New Year!

The SOAP method isn't a science or a rule. It's just a simple method that can really help the reader digest and apply scripture. Whether you're brand new, or you've been at it for decades, it's a proven method. Have a better one? Great! The point isn't the method, but rather what it helps you to do!

S - Scripture - Write down one verse / text that sticks out to you that you can mediate on for the day. It can be as short or long as you want!
O - Observation - Take a moment to think about and write down what you notice (i.e. who wrote it, what was the author's intent, what's a tension or conflict, where do you see it pointing to Jesus, etc). Just remember, don't overthink it!
A - Application - This is important - identify where the text is encouraging, challenging or moving you. How can you apply that to your life today / this week?
P - Prayer - Take a moment, whether in writing or on your own, to pray. Give yourself permission to think about the passage throughout the day.
